Funds allocated for the beginning of the project Zhur Hydrostation

13/05/2010

The Kosovo Government approved the request of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) regarding allocation of the money for the project 'Zhur Hydrostation”. The Kosovo Government, on its meeting held on May 13th 2010, approved the request regarding the allocation of €160,000 for the establishment of Project Management Unit and Transaction Advisers. However, based on MEM the request for €160,000 was specifically for Project Management Unit, whereas for the Transaction Advisers an additional of amount €350,000 was requested. Thus, based on the officials of MEM, this is a technical mistake made while drafting the decision, for which they will request the improvement. The approved funds will be spent for contracting the project manager and other five engineers. After 5 to 6 months additional experts will be hired. This office will start operating since August. Until now MEM didn't use any other plan or strategy for Hydropower Zhur, apart from the feasibility study. Experts assume that in Kosovo 18 hydropower stations can be built, where Hydropower 'Zhur” will be among the first ones and with the highest capacity. This hydropower, which is expected to be built in Zhur village, of the Prizren Municipality, can provide to the electric power system of Kosovo, a variable power of 305 MW, with average annual production of 398 GWh.
