The Draft law on weapons, ammunition and other security related equipment, is approved

Amongst others, this draft law regulates the field of equipment with weapons, ammunition and other security related equipment for state authorized security institutions which include: the Kosovo Police, Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Correctional Services, Kosovo Customs, and Kosovo Forestry Agency by not including here the Kosovo Security Force.

After the approval of the Law on Weapons from the Kosovo Assembly on August 17th 2009, which is viewed as a highly important law for guaranteeing the safety of Kosovo citizens, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has drafted another draft law which deals with the equipment with weapons, ammunition and other security related equipment. This Draft law was approved by the Government in its 139th meeting, held on August 12th 2010. Amongst others, this draft law regulates the field of equipment with weapons, ammunition and other security related equipment for state authorized security institutions which include: the Kosovo Police, Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Correctional Services, Kosovo Customs, and Kosovo Forestry Agency by not including here the Kosovo Security Force. Additionally, this draft law regulates the manufacturing, repairing, import, export, trade, placement of identification signs, noting, security during deposit and transportation etc. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is the authority which will be authorized based on this law for implementation, respectively, equipment with weapons, supervision, data entry into the central database which includes all weapons, ammunition and explosives within the Republic of Kosovo, etc. 

 

 

With the entry into force of this draft law, there will be an additional budget cost for 2010 and 2011. This cost is estimated to be approximately 1,969,500 €, respectively 1,601,500 € - will be sent in 2010 and 368,000 € in 2011. The additional budget cost which will be influenced upon the entry into force of this law is in contradiction with the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2010-2012.
