14/02/2018

GAP Institute today held a press conference and presented the online platform which contains all the promises given by the mayors of Kosovo in the recent local elections 2017.

Jeton Mehmeti, research director at GAP Institute, explained the research and evaluating methodology of the fulfillment of electoral promises. According to him, the promises have been extracted from the election programs of the candidates and from the television debates. However, some of the current mayors did not conduct electoral campaigns, therefore it was impossible to spot any electoral promise. GAP Institute will monitor and evaluate the performance of the Mayors promises periodically over the next four years.

Bekim Salihu, senior researcher at GAP Institute, stressed out that during the 2017 local election campaigns, the current mayors of the municipalities have made a total of 888 electoral promises. The largest number of promises were given in the field of infrastructure with a total of 333 promises, in the field of education with 126 promises and in the field of public services with 100 promises. Municipalities with the largest number of promises are Vitia, Prishtina and Gjakova.

GAP Institute also monitored the fulfillment of promises in the past mandate, where out of the 548 promises that were given, only 283 promises were fully met.
