02/04/2008

The Kosovo Assembly Committee on European Integration held a public hearing on the topic "Kosovo membership in the Council of Europe and the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms", and GAP Institute was among the guests invited to the hearing.

GAP Institute representative present in this public hearing was Shpend Ahmeti, who debated on the procedures related to Kosovo membership in the Council of Europe and described the method in which Kosovo would be represented in the CoE institutions, in case of Kosovo membership in this European body.

Members of the Committee for European Integration also received a research paper prepared by the GAP Institute which describes the process of Kosovo membership in the CoE, Kosovo representation in CoE institutions and the joint budget with the CoE. The report also contains recommendations on the steps that Kosovo institutions should follow in order to begin with the CoE membership procedures as soon as possible.
